Fish Feed Firms to Invest Sh510mn At Kengen's Olkaria Park

Nairobi, Jul 20, 2026 (Capital FM/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) --

Two companies will invest Sh510 million to build a fish feed manufacturing plant at KenGen's Green Energy Park in Olkaria, expanding the number of investors at the geothermal-powered industrial hub to five.

Maxim Agri and Samakgro plan to establish an 8-metric-tonne-per-hour fish feed factory powered by 3 megawatts of geothermal electricity.

The project is expected to increase local production of fish feed, helping meet growing demand from Kenya's expanding aquaculture sector while reducing reliance on imports.

The investment is the second to be announced at the industrial park this year as KenGen continues to attract manufacturers seeking reliable and low-cost renewable energy.

KenGen Managing Director Peter Njenga said the project signals growing investor interest in using geothermal energy for manufacturing.

"This investment is a strong vote of confidence in Kenya's green industrialisation agenda and affirms the growing demand for reliable, affordable and sustainable energy solutions to power industrial growth," he said.

Maxim Agri Director Joachim Westerveld said using geothermal power would lower production costs and increase fish feed output, making the product more affordable for fish farmers.

KenGen also unveiled a digital investor portal that provides information on investment opportunities at the Green Energy Park and is expected to simplify the process for firms interested in setting up operations.

The Olkaria Green Energy Park is part of KenGen's strategy to commercialise geothermal resources by offering investors access to electricity, steam and industrial land for manufacturing.
