BBVA Channels 134 Billion Euros in Sustainable Business in 2025

Feb 25, 2026 (MarketLine via COMTEX) --

BBVA's sustainable business grew at a strong pace in 2025.

BBVA's sustainable business continued to grow at a good pace in 2025. The bank channeled €134 billion, representing a 44% increase compared to 2024. This figure is a record year for the financial institution, which aims to mobilize €700 billion in the 2025-2029 period.

Of the total channeled during 2025, 77% corresponds to aspects related to climate change and natural capital , which includes activities linked to the efficient use of water, agriculture or circular economy, among others; while 23% was allocated to the social sphere , with projects that include social, educational or health infrastructure; support for entrepreneurs and young companies; and financial inclusion.

"This 2025 record consolidates sustainability as a true engine of growth at BBVA , as well as a strategic lever for opening new markets and acquiring new clients. Through the design and offering of specialized products and services and personalized client advice, we are generating a positive and tangible social impact, fulfilling our purpose of supporting individuals and societies in their desire to go further," stated Javier Rodríguez Soler, Global Head of Sustainability and CIB at BBVA.

Sustainable business is growing in all segments

In 2025, the Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) area channeled €68 billion, 34% more than the previous year. Of this, €49 billion was allocated to financing and transaction banking activity, especially in sectors such as energy and mobility.

In the area of ??financing green and sustainable projects, BBVA has channeled around €4 billion, notably projects related to renewable energy —mainly solar and wind, with unique operations in the United States and Europe—financed with €3 billion; and clean technology projects ( 'cleantech' )—such as biofuel solutions, carbon capture and storage projects, and the financing of a battery gigafactory —financed with €500 million. Other projects linked to natural capital, such as water treatment and distribution, are also noteworthy.

Furthermore, BBVA has continued to promote solutions such as sustainability-based confirming , which allows its clients' suppliers to access better terms if they meet the established requirements. This solution also serves as a lever for corporate clients to improve the sustainability of their value chain.

Additionally, in its key markets, BBVA has continued to strengthen its support for European clients in more exposed sectors and has expanded its range of solutions in North America.

Regarding the capital markets, in 2025 BBVA channeled €9 billion, comprising third-party bonds—with BBVA acting as bookrunner—related to green bonds, sustainable bonds (specifically the portion allocated to environmental objectives), and bonds linked to environmental indicators, as well as EU emission allowances acquired by BBVA at auction under the EU Emissions Trading System Directive. Bond issuances among European and Mexican clients showed particularly strong activity. Furthermore, the BBVA Group continues to promote the development of green and social bond markets in Latin America, Europe, and the United States.
